This is, by far, the most confused I’ve ever been in a theatre.

As a huge fan of Iain Reid, I knew I wanted to see this thing opening night. I even avoided the trailer so I could go in as blind as possible.

What I could not avoid, however, was the rotten tomatoes score.

    15%

    Dumbfounded. Utterly, hopelessly dumbfounded.

As soon as I sat in the theatre, I was worried that heartbreak was NOT going to feel good in…

I’m gonna throw this into the same conversation as Lake Mungo. Both films do something interesting and DEEPLY unsettling in their own respective (and genre bending) ways.

This gets every drop of praise I can give it. Why? Because I found myself genuinely frightened by this thing. Not many films can do that.

I felt like a kid again, having a nightmare. You remember those nightmares, right? You’re in your house, only it’s not quite your house? You can’t quite make out the faces of others? SOMETHING isn’t right?

Check this out. We need to support movies like this.

I really, REALLY dug this upon a second viewing.

Fincher’s direction and the performances of Foster and Stewart really carried what would have been a c-tier script in anyone else’s hands.

Part of me really feels like David Koepp is a fraud. For every Jurassic Park, he has two of the worst Indy movies, and every middle of the road Soderbergh movie. But then you have Carlito’s Way and the first Mission Impossible.

Idk, brah had the most confusing…

I cannot believe what my eyes just saw. Nor what my ears just heard.

This is legitimately the most anti-racist movie ever made. They cast a black man in a leading role of a Mel Brooks film only a decade after the civil rights movement. They made him the smartest character in the film. They made Gene Wilder his sidekick. And they gave him a wardrobe that would make Shaft jealous. They even made fun of nazis and respectfully portrayed…

Using this making of as a place to dump my thoughts about this show.

    Season 1:
I found myself in awe from the first frame. Frightening, confounding. Perhaps the feeling is truly indescribable.
Coming from a religious background, I was deeply familiar with the idea of this supposed "Sudden Departure" and have always thought using that as a plot element in a story would be both horrifying, yet interesting to explore.
All I was given was Left Behind. 👎
