A nice break for me from a winter of slow, meditative films. Edited as spasmodic bursts of archival footage and bebop tunes, it tells the story of the Congo in the mid 20th century (and one of the first real tests of what the UN project would be) with fury, style, and clarity.

Love Torn in a Dream 2000
Every time I think back to this movie I feel nothing but complete love. A phantasmagoric torrent of latinate language with a million cinematic magic tricks emerging one after the other, a master at the apex of his craft just having fun and showing you all he can do. Ruiz has an enormous heart, I feel so close to him.
