    Emilia Pérez

Some movies are meant to be seen with popcorn and soda, some are better enjoyed in a crowded cinema, and some are destined for lonely nights. Emilia Perez is a film best experienced when you’re drunk—or at least, that has been my experience.

After ten minutes of watching Jacques Audiard’s bizarre musical at home, I was certain I wouldn’t make it to the end without the help of some wine. By the time I was finishing my third glass of…

    A Complete Unknown

    ★★★

I did not know much about Bob Dylan’s career, and after leaving the cinema, my knowledge gap remained unchanged. Despite some inspiring sequences and memorable scenes, my enjoyment was mostly limited to guessing whether I recognized the song or was hearing it for the first time. There is no doubt that Timothée Chalamet is great and Edward Norton is solid, but their performances do not feel worthy of a vivid conversation.

A Complete Unknown is not bad, but it is completely unnecessary.

After the Irishman had been critically accepted as a farewell bit in the 60 year long career, Martin Scorsese created yet another masterpiece which would be remembered as one of the greatest works of this decade. Rather than simply summarizing director’s techniques and widely beloved style, Killers of the Flower Moon tells a small story summarizing an era. The spotless performances by DiCaprio, Gladstone, De Niro are supported by the breathtaking cinematography and itching sound design, which all together drive…

    Civil War

    ★★★★½

Alex Garland’s approach to depict a clickbait theme is undoubted win. The event that suits better to an overly budgeted installment is narrated through a context with no reasoned start and no conclusive finish. The film’s prime focus is daily routine of a team of journalists on a journey towards interviewing the President of the collapsing nation - the journey that ends with the breathtakingly framed, staged, edited and captured action sequence. Civil War is introspection on human nature in inhumane ambient rather than on the societal divisions of today’s America.
