When I learned they were making another installment in this franchise after years of stagnancy, I figured it’d just be another Hollywood cash grab, but the trailer intrigued me. Turns out- this entry rivals the first in its originality and intensity, successfully setting itself apart from any of its relatives while still managing to pay proper homage to the 1976 feature, serving as a perfect companion for its predecessor (despite this one being the prequel, it remains the successor).

After seeing the trailer for this, where they give away the vampire twist, I was not very hopeful it had many more tricks up it’s sleeve, but gave it a go since vampires coupled with ballerinas are two things I can get behind. It also doesn’t hurt that Kathryn Newton and Melissa Barrera star in it. (And oh my god, now there’s another one of Newton’s horror movie characters I have to recreate a costume for.)

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre is a grisly exercise in brutality. Although viewers often misremember Texas Chainsaw as being particularly graphic, there is very little blood and gore, instead, relying on the power of suggestion for the minds of the audience to fill in the blanks.
