I will say that the final goon’s involvement with the thugs is strange. Some allegory about how the allure of drugs can lead decent folk to be complicit in social horrors?
Very entertaining and well executed. Just what you’d expect from Meadows and Considine.
Pretty straightforward 70's revenge flick. Everybody wanted to do the "Wild Bunch" ending back then. I found the level of unironic patriotism to be a stretch even when considering that it takes place in Texas almost 50 years ago.
Sidenote: The Devane/ Jones scenes read a bit, not homoerotic but, homodomestic if that makes sense. You'll see what I mean during the hospital scene.

The “Sean Baker style” is what audiences come to expect from lauded “Florida Project” director. A style which can be summarized as a visual and thematic cohesion of Soderbergh, and Korine.
Along with Baker’s “keep the party going” calling-card being on full display, we are introduced to a colder, less optimistic depiction in “Anora”.
Perhaps the juxtaposition of tone is informed by the location of Baker’s latest entry. Being no stranger to depictions of poverty as well as framing class-struggles…
