Days of Heaven 1978
Tenth.. fifteenth time watching this? Noticed some lovely details this time like Linda Manz reading the picture book with a double spread of a snake dissolving into the farmer wincing in pain on his bed. Nice biblical reference in a film full of them with the bird holding an apple staring down Brooke Adams at the end. Mechanical revolution reading of the film strengthened by the automated piano in the ballet room.

In terms of production design etc, easy 10/10, insane richness in even in the smallest of scenes. While watching thought the pacing felt slightly off and bordering on monotonous, the stakes didnt seem to actually rise at any point and instead of being built around larger set pieces it just kept marching towards an inevitable bleakness. I reckon I will enjoy that aspect more on a second viewing though when I'm not expecting a particular type of payoff. Fine performance from Lily Gladstone but I was v surprised after all the buzz at the lack of agency her character had. Ending was sick. 8/10
