The Thing, but in space and if you added the visuals and sensation of a bad acid trip and memory loss to it all. Frustrating by design, you follow Riya who wakes up to find her crew viciously murdered, and she has no idea what happened or even where she is.
Like Riya, you can’t believe everything you see or hear. And to that point, the visuals and sound do a lot of heavy lifting to a familiar plot. Eliza González is compelling and gives a strong performance.

Worldwide geopolitical relationships and schemes explode in the 1960s, centralized in the Congo. Now imagine all of this layered into and around jazz performances. Incredibly well put together from archival footage, Nikita Khrushev’s audio memoirs, Congolese novels and more.
I have to say this one grew on me. It was a lot of information to process in the beginning but as the documentary progressed and my grasp of what was happened strengthened, I thought it just got better and better.
