A truly wonderful date night movie.

From side-splitting satire to gut-wrenching gore, this one’s got it all! Definitely felt like I was being spoon-fed a bit at points, but it was all done with such style that I didn’t care.

Don’t even know what to say about this one. I now understand why people consider this director Bong’s magnum opus. This film has so much to say about power, corruption, and human nature as a whole. Need a rewatch asap.

I feel like I can smell this movie. The sound design and score are absolutely inhuman. The craft that went into this film, from the human/animal skeletal folk art, to Leatherface’s multiple costumes, really gives it an indelible texture. The simultaneously crude and ornate nature of the family’s β€œwork” comes across incredibly naturalistic, the type of thing that if not handled correctly, could easily fall into contrived pretension. My very high expectations going into this first viewing were justified.

    What’s in a name? A lot, apparently.

This movie is a brilliant meditation on grief, and the senses that tie themselves to our memories. Nic Cage is amazing here, and Alex Wolff is pretty great as well. Definitely going to be rewatching this before the year is over.
