Zemeckis. Burton. Lucas. Cameron. Spielberg. Now Coppola with Megalopolis. Even Scorsese with Hugo from what I’ve seen of that movie and some of that de-aging in Irishman. They’ve all gone too far at one point or another with 21st-Century digital advancements. So many of our greatest old-guard auteur filmmakers have lost themselves to this oversized fascination. Let’s hope that they have enough time to back away and return to story-centric blockbusters. Or that people like De Palma who never slipped…
