Isn't this... like... kind of a huge mess?
Don't get me wrong, "mess" does not equal bad or even mediocre, and I loved most of the entire first half. Pattinson's two great performances, the whole set-up, the very funny, snarky tone of the film, how it is borderline a horror film.... It treats the Kafka esque existentialist nightmare with weight, letting it get uncomfortable, and doesn't only play it for laughs. And I also loved the weird tangents the film…

I can't give Bakemonogatari a rating.
Why?
Because I don't know how I feel about Bakemonigatari.
Imagine you're in a theatre filled with people, and you're watching this incredibly unique, intelligent, absourdly gorgeously presented film, but the theatre's projector is fucked, so, from time to time, this incredible artsy thingy is replaced on screen by a scummy, plotless, morally corrupt softcore porn, and for some reason, people don't seem to mind this at all, maybe they like it even more…
