In traditional M. Night fashion it over-explains in the end, but overall it’s his best in quite a long time. I enjoyed it! Its main problem is most of the enjoyment comes from trying to unravel the mystery, and Shyamalan’s ending makes you feel silly for even thinking about it at all. Not exactly a Sixth Sense level reveal.
Jonathan Groff though. Every line he says is delivered like he was just told what to say five seconds before the cameras started rolling. Bautista was great, so it evened out.
The Prometheus of young adult novel adaptations. By far the most interesting of all the Hunger Games movies, even if it doesn’t fully work.
The sizable chunk of the movie that deals with the actual games is drab and not particularly engaging, and Rachel Zegler’s character Lucy Gray is shockingly forgettable for how often she bursts into song at inappropriate times.
But the character study of Coriolanus Snow, which works because of Tom Blyth’s performance, is fascinating despite its flaws.…
