A gargantuan, soaring, spectacular and singular first half that is undermined brick by brick by an unfocused and melodramatic final act. Just a puzzling series of choices. A shockingly meek effort to capitalize on idea and execution. Ultimately a disappointing film that is spectacular to look at and listen to.

    “Museums are a Western institution.”

I am wrestling with the inkling high school senior Cole would give this five stars.

Provocative. Challenging. Ultimately narratively hollow. Pressed to recall a film less interested in hand holding. If you engage with this earnestly and academically, it is rewarding.

The Last Of Us with a journalism degree.

Vacuous, self-important and relentlessly obvious. Alex Garland has lost the plot.

A girl in a car looks down. A passenger tells her to pay attention: “You’re not gonna want to miss this.” Cut to an extreme wide shot of the highway, littered with abandoned, burned out cars. Innovative!

I walked out after the fourth time a defenseless person is shot to death at point blank range.

    Dreadful.
