  This is a Bergman film in steroids. Characters stranded on an island, a suffocating atmosphere, sexual repression, magical happenings, real and dreamed, and the hipnotic energy coming from the light house which permeates the movie from beginning to end. This is truly a piece of art. It reminded me a lot about The Hour of the Wolf, specially due to the black-and-white cinematography, but also because of how anxious it made me feel.
