  what a dreadful and meritless film this was... hinging 100% on aristocratic aesthetics to carry the whole thing; nothing innovative here besides a large costume budget. none of the characters have any intrigue whatsoever and rely on the viewer being inherently interested in them as historical figures; i can't think of any other explanation for how the entire film pendulates between ostensibly "indie/arty" outdoor gallivants and meaningless, muted indoor scenes that are mostly the same shots over and over again,…
