Slow burn psychological horror that takes it’s time to get it’s hooks into you but once it does, it doesn’t let you go.

Fallen 1998
I first watched Fallen on a business trip overseas. Holed up in my hotel room, lonely and flicking through the TV offerings, I came across Fallen and settled on it, and it was one of those occasions when the film just perfectly suits the situation.
It’s a ludicrous premise but utterly compelling and Denzel’s star wattage is through the roof.

The Legend of Hell House 1973
Classic haunted house film - one of my favourites - with a screenplay by Richard Matheson of I Am Legend fame, based on his own novel, Hell House, which is cited as an inspiration by Stephen King.
This is a genuinely creepy film, dripping in atmosphere and boasting some truly unnerving moments. It’s like an amped-up The Haunting but more interested in cruelty and debauchery.
Special mention to the amazing soundtrack by Delia Derbyshire of Dr Who fame. It’s minimal and used sparingly but greatly effective.
