  This was a very thin adaptation with a narrative that didn’t develop much until the final third. Eggers has previously carried out greater justice for themes relating to psychosexual repression and after which I believe have been two misses in both this and The Northman, I think it’s safe to say that he is a greater filmmaker when his focus lies away from the more typically commerical films.
