Stacked cast. Tense the whole way through. Internal conflict on who to be rooting for. I love the way the loose ends of each character that’s introduced in the beginning all get tied up like a checklist as DeNiro and Pacino’s final stops.
When DeNiro and Pacino first meet for coffee, they agree on their inability to do anything else. They are destined to continue on their same paths.
In the end, they both get seemingly everything else they could want. They are presented with the ultimate opportunity to walk away, and neither can help but flee back to each other for the final showdown.
