Incredible. I saw so many connections to my family. The way we behave. I see a lot of my mother and biological grandmother in Cynthia. The sweet sides and also the switch to crying and hysterics, the sometimes quite selfish and self destructive behavior. This really might be a better family movie than Magnolia. If Magnolia is about fathers then Secrets and Lies is about mothers. Mike Leigh writes some of the most genuine characters I’ve ever seen. And always finding profound and subtle ways to write about class.
