    Guillermo del Toro's Pinocchio

Had the absolute privilege of seeing this in 35mm with a post-film Q&A with Guillermo del Toro at the wonderful Music Box Theatre.

GDT's latest outing is a beautiful, touching film and a magnificent feat of stop-motion animation. This is certainly not the Pinocchio story you may think it is, and is all the better for it. This film sees del Toro at his most kid friendly (-ish), funny, and playful. Fantastic musical numbers paired with stunning art direction make…

I was utterly enthralled. Stalker is a deliciously dreamy film that is so richly layered with thematic elements and meaning. Starts off as being more intriguing and rather humorous; yet things quickly become tense, dizzying, and introspective. It all feels so strangely beautiful and melancholy. The film's imagery is just absolutely stunning and entrancing, never has desolation looked so good. Just wow. Cannot wait to revisit this film.

I was afraid this was going to be another “woe is me” US propaganda flick - but what I got here was a genuinely personal and empathetic look into the post-war lives of soldiers. Feels like it was made by soldiers and for soldiers- praising those who served while somewhat criticizing those who put them there. Amazing handling of tone and the acting from everyone here is top notch.

Honestly much better than I thought it would be. Feels frankensteined together at times but Mackie carries and Ford is an incredible replacement for the late William Hurt.

    DreamWorks is back baby!

Absolutely has no right being as genuinely fantastic as it is. The crisp, Spider-Verse inspired animation fits well with the Bandito-mythos of Puss in Boots, and allows for a beautifully kinetic energy that was lacking in the 2011 outing. The story tells a simple, yet valuable tale about cherishing what you have, and embracing the friends and loved ones around you. This story sees Puss is at his most vulnerable, but still infinitely charming thanks to…

Lukas Gage was unnecessarily good in this. A solid little thriller with some pretty great gags sprinkled throughout.
