90/100: I was struggling with what the right comparison is for Anora, then I saw a review that mentioned the anxiety inducing “Uncut Gems”. I couldn’t agree more with that comparison. It’s funny, exciting and quick…it’s nerve racking, deliberate and painful.
Maybe 20 minutes too long if we’re getting nit-picky.
83/100: Efficient and effective is how I’d summarize this movie. After a bit of a slower/dialogue heavy start it quickly picks up the pace and jam packs its 93 minute run time. The story is always one step ahead and keeps you guessing throughout. I’ve become a big Michael Fassbender fan this year, and this was another stellar performance….the chemistry between he and Cate Blanchete was believable in all the right ways for these roles. 42/100: Stavvy baby….basically exactly what you expect it to be. Definitely not good, but not awful. I did like Tyler’s puka shell necklace.
95/100: Wow….if ever there was a Tarantino picture, this was it.
The dialogue, while good, was heavy in the first act. But all hell breaks loose after that. All of that heavy dialogue comes back in to play and shows itself as relevant.
Absolutely one of my favorite Samuel L. Jackson roles, second only to Jules.
Nothing is as it seems here and had me on edge for the last 2/3’s of the movie. Loved it.
