I am very mixed on how I feel about this movie - while I think its cinematography is amazing and has great moments paired with an amazing soundtrack and themes of isolation and escapism and how dangerous this can be, I found it very confusing. I will admit I enjoyed that movie a lot but it felt like FOREVER. This is my second time I tried watching this, the first being about 4 years ago where I was too bored and turned it off 1/3 in. I have absolutely no problem watching your Godfathers or Lord of the Ringses or Lawrences of Arabia but man I struggled to get through this one, not completely sure why.
I could write about this movie for hours, but put simply, that was beautiful.
I plan to write online more about this film in the future, but to keep it short:
This movie’s soundtrack was amazing. I knew that it was composed by Joe Hisaishi going in, but even with that in mind it surprised based on its raw quality.
Another thing that I found great was how this feels straight out of one of the earlier Final Fantasy games…
This movie felt so familiar but also so new!
For a first time watch, i was amazed at how similar this was to some of my favorite media that came out after this. To name a few notable examples:
The Legend of Zelda (especially Twilight Princess and Breath of the Wild)
Shadow of the Colossus
Avatar the Last Airbender
