    Interesting to see how much of Mann’s later work can seemingly trace their characteristics and style to this film. But honestly… I think I’m just not a big Michael Mann fan. Killer atmosphere, story was interesting and I enjoyed the slow burn, I just didn’t feel much of anything after I finished, which unfortunately seems to be a common denominator shared with most other Michael Mann films I’ve watched.

    Always a cool experience watching something you’ve only understood through cultural osmosis. As a white man in suburban California, I’m been pretty removed both geographically and from the culture of this film and have a surface level understanding of the blaxploitation genre as a whole. But even I knew of Shaft growing up. The iconic lines, the cliches, the vibes, the music. Was honestly just legitimately a fun and engaging film to watch, and it still holds up pretty well today.…
