Thief 1981
Interesting to see how much of Mann’s later work can seemingly trace their characteristics and style to this film. But honestly… I think I’m just not a big Michael Mann fan. Killer atmosphere, story was interesting and I enjoyed the slow burn, I just didn’t feel much of anything after I finished, which unfortunately seems to be a common denominator shared with most other Michael Mann films I’ve watched.

Always a cool experience watching something you’ve only understood through cultural osmosis. As a white man in suburban California, I’m been pretty removed both geographically and from the culture of this film and have a surface level understanding of the blaxploitation genre as a whole. Truthfully, I’m not the biggest fan of Indiana Jones in the world. I enjoy and respect the original three, with a preference towards Last Crusade. I live cordially with Crystal Skull; he pays rent by being about half a good movie. Now Dial of Destiny, I was frankly expecting to be bad to mediocre, but fun.
