Steven Soderbergh’s best, most assured, accessible, and entertaining motion picture since 2011’s CONTAGION. A sleek, taut, and sexy espionage thriller that just so happens to also be the most badass, romantic motion picture I’ve seen in I don’t know when.

The performance of Robert Pattinson as Mickey Barnes in Bong Joon-ho’s MICKEY 17 will unfortunately get lost to the ether of our present state of constant entertainment, both on the big screen and the small screen, and that’s a shame because it’s one of those fully committed, oddball performancesmthat should be celebrated when awards season rolls back around in the Winter of 2025. An absolutely mind blowing whistleblower tale that’s still on going to this day.

Meticulously crafted with on the money performances, Todd Haynes’ tale of corporate malfeasance and the story of all the people’s lives that corporations see as pawns on a chess board in service to the all mighty dollar, is one of the most harrowing and gut wrenching films I’ve seen in some time. Haynes, with this one, proves that he is a master storyteller.

An important movie, people. Especially during these times.

    Highest recommendation.

    Review of the Director’s Cut...

And just like that, the director’s cut of this thing crashes my top ten of 2019.  While the climax maybe does a tad too much and goes on a tad too long, it doesn’t really matter.  By that point, Mike Flanagan had done so much masterful work leading up to the third act, that any little nitpicks can be forgiven.

And that is especially true of this director’s cut.  A film that already really works,…
