Cléo from 5 to 7 1962
Agnès Varda is a true genius. This film is so defiantly directed in style & substance; being a French New Wave piece under the direction of the female gaze makes the film that much more special.
I have never related more to a character than Cléo: her several transformations and unravelings/musing through the threat of impermanence is so real. A vibrant portrayal of learning to live and to be perceived with no promise! More of this in cinema please!
And that bedroom w the piano and the swing and millions of kittens—divine. Need.

Mysterious Skin 2004
I watched this for the second & last time because I wanted to see Michelle again. Sweet angel. No review is going to capture what this film is and that’s what’s so great about Araki. It’s Mysterious Skin. A film I don’t really recommend openly, or at all, yet it should be watched (?!) (once!). Araki is of the last directors that can capture the chaos, stress, & ephemeral nature of growing up in that period before and into the 2000s and the heaviness that lingers in what comes w that.
