Vive L'Amour 1994
lee kang-shen with another amazing performance. his face tells a story like no other. a very moving film, tsai ming-liang examplifies what it means to be a true artist and visionary. usually my mind wanders a bit during his films(which is okay, and to be expected) but this one had me totally enthralled the whole time. there was a camera movement maybe 3/4 of the way in that i had to watch thrice, still don’t know how they did it. it was so unreal, and kind of out of character for his laid back style, but it worked so well

there’s a scene in which cindy asks her grandmother what it felt like to fall in love, to which her grandma responds with “i don’t think i’ve found it”. this line impacted me greatly, down to the composition of my DNA. what a beautiful film, i am ruined, haven’t cried like this in a while
