The King of Comedy 1982
Crossing paths with people who’ve had a break with reality is something of a minor occupational hazard in my job, and I’ve had a few experiences with friends and acquaintances in the same boat. It can be frightening but it’s rarely cartoonish. This movie does a great job of depicting a person who is seriously deluded without being too arch or campy.
In some ways, this is an even more nuanced depiction of delusion than Taxi Driver although I prefer Taxi…

Finally! By far my favorite of the Wes Anderson films I’ve seen. Redtail hawk was the icing on the cake.
I was close to giving up on Wes Anderson’s films, but I’m glad I gave this a chance. Although, I seem to notice an evolution in his films, and it might be that I prefer his earlier work. Maybe he’s suffering…
