  The Thing 1982

  If you are looking for a critical and objective review, scroll further. I have zero complaints for this movie, only admiration and obsession. The execution, the sounds, the suspense, the grotesque imagery, the dialogue--everything makes it my all-time favorite movie. I love body horror and the potential it has, whether it's philosophical or simply a good scare. No one knows what The Thing truly looks like, only it's amalgamation of forms, which make it's abilities all the more terrifying. I turn my nose to over-done gore but this is a fine exception.

  As Above, So Below 2014

  Hard "Eh" for me. Not particularly memorable but definitely unique. I haven't seen this concept explored, especially with so much detail. Most killings felt unnecessary and the survivors are... questionable. Perhaps it's my own bias but that doesn't dismiss the fact most kills are simply meant to scare the reader. They're abrupt and offer little to the plot other than terror, with a lot of them unexplained.

  It's not a bad movie by any means! I love the twists and reveals, but it leaves a little more to be desired.
