  It is Kaufman’s authentic style that goes hand in hand with the theme of the film which is not so different from Synecdoche New York, nor is it pretentious or hard to get at all - therefore the movie manages not only to make a strong point with its theme, but it also achieves this self-referential level of movie language which is really a great treat to watch and to play with (Cassavetes reference is one of my favorites, as well as the nuances in dialogue, with words repeating themselves etc).
