this is a perfect movie imo. just overwhelmingly impressive every time i see it. something was in the air in 2017!!!

Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me 1992
undoubtedly one of the scariest movies of all time, and sheryl lee gives one of the most stunning leading woman performances. the movie hinges on her performance being effective, and it is absolutely startling. some of my favorite sound design in a film ever. i used to be gravely confused by the opening act when i first saw it, but this watch made me finally realize that it was a reactionary commentary and subversion of what Twin Peaks (and most of lynch’s work) was actually about: the darkness that lies within seemingly sincere, shiny veneer of contemporary society. rip the goat!

out of sheer curiosity behind learning about the wild as hell concept behind Slave Play, i found this documentary to be a lot more inviting and inventive than overwhelmingly grating/pretentious. getting to dive into the process of the actors was a treat, and the film traced a nice lineage of influences. i think the ultra meta narrativizing of the documentary itself was a little too much fourth wall breaking, and i think the documentary does suffer near the tail end when…
