Gorgeous film, with deep character interactions reminiscent of canonical Southern Gothic lit. McDonagh's style is so clear throughout, for good (sharpest dialogue in the game, ability to go from deeply dark to laugh out loud funny without tonal whiplash, his feelings on the catholic church) and bad (unneeded scenes, weird views on race, his feelings on the catholic church).
Great seeing McDonagh feature women prominently. Harrleson and McDormand put on a performance.
Legitimately just rough. Cobbled together aesthetics, performances that stayed on their own, nothing seemed coherent. Really don't get what they were going for here

"It is not the journey, it's the destination" is a wild closing remark for a 200 minute film, and one the film itself seems unready to fully commit to in its writing as much as in its runtime. The epilogue (in which the line is featured) showcased a number of Toth's finished projects, glanced over by the wealthy, highlighting the importance of the destination, but then speaks to how much Toth's personal history and desires were featured in the design…
Simplify, Simplify. Get a well-written script, have cool actors get into character, throw a couple cameras on-location and let em go.
Hackman delivers another masterclass. RIP.
