Thoroughly enjoyed this. How it was filmed, the story told, Florence Pugh and Andrew Garfield’s’ performance. It felt very real. Surprised this film and its actors didn’t garner a single Oscar nomination.

I thought this would be a standard feel good rom com with typical conflict and resolution and I guess it was that, but done poorly. Cringy. The best part was the line Lily Bloom says to her husband about why they need to get divorced. An important, sad, uplifting story I just felt it could’ve been told better.

Sean Baker delivered a complex, captivating, overall brilliant film. I knew I was going to enjoy Anora from the opening scene where Ani is happy, confident, and in control as she takes care of her clients. Important film. I throughly enjoyed the decision to have the characters speak in Cayuga. Lily Gladstone is one of my favorite actresses for her ability to modulate her level energy to match the tone of the scene. Her measured approach is enthralling. The film also bears witness to a pressing problem in indigenous communities: missing people who go unreported and the lack of funding for their search as well as white people attempting to understand culture by imposing their own on it. Cringy in the best way
