    Very silly. Sometimes even funny.

However, you would have thought that there would be more explanation of certain plot points of the film given that the cast includes such mega-heavyweights? Hell, maybe even a little backstory or motivation for each character? Most of the film you seem to spend half the time watching it all and wondering, "there must be more to this, right?" The film was tantalisingly close to having sinister, and even uncomfortably moments, but somehow every opportunity to draw you in is just bluntly ignored.

Much like a microwave meal, not completely indigestible, just inescapably mid.

If there was a film that defined 2000's cinema, this certainly would be in the runnings, if not winning.

Okay, so like first time I watched it I thought it was really sick and I was really into like the boats and stuff and the Ukrainian opera thing. Also I now want to go be some weird time-warp spy or whatever in Estonia. But upon further investigation, this film is filled with a lot of plot holes and inconsistencies. The writing is jolty and stilted at times. The relationships are tenuous and character motivation gets buried by the sheer…

An innocuous but similarly slick and quietly cackle-inducing go of it by the Coens. The story, whilst lacking emotional depth, more than makes up for it with an exceptionally crisp screenplay. You don’t really end up finding out too much about any of the characters, but you don’t really care. The pacing of the film is brisk but enough wry laughs are squeezed in that you never feel the desire to ponder about the previous scene too much, and it really…
