Dune: Part Two 2024
Beautifully shot, expertly directed, perfectly adapted, painfully boring. Sorry, but Dune just isn’t my thing. I really tried. I liked what I saw, but I just couldn’t get emotionally invested in it. I dunno. Oh well.

Big Trouble in Little China 1986
What a glorious mishmash of genre, style and tone. Kurt Russell gives a career best performance (fight me) as the resolute Jack Burton that had me rolling with laughter at nearly every line. The pulpy nature of it all is pitch perfectly executed by director John Carpenter and it really bums me out that we never got further adventures of Burton and crew. I miss when filmmakers took wild swings like this. At the risk of sounding like an old man yelling at a cloud, they just don’t make ‘em like they used to.

An American Werewolf in London 1981
The best werewolf movie of all time. It’s also a perfect example of how, when used properly, practical effects are a million times more effective than CGI. The iconic transformation scene alone is worth the price of admission.
