    Zombies of Mora Tau

    ★★½

I do not have a lot to say about the film, Zombies of Mora Tau. Given that I quite often feel underwhelmed with zombie films on account of having seen so many, it takes a lot for cinematic representations of the undead to impress me these days. To be entirely honest, I think the brief introductory Kim Newman clip (on the Arrow Video version) where he discusses the significance of this film--yes, even he admits that horror fans would generally…

    Calvaire

    ★★★

Calvaire is very difficult for me to describe. It is simultaneously transgressive and—oddly enough—hesitant to be too visceral in its depictions of violence. I also appreciated the variety of comedic approaches that the film employed; while Kittytown could have…

    Black Sunday

    ★★★★½

Had you asked me to rank my top horror movies of all time towards the beginning of my horror film watching odyssey, I would likely not have included many films from the 1960s. A decade and many scream queens later, I find myself hard-pressed to think of an era of horror cinema that captivates me more. I have absolutely fallen in love with so many horror films from the 60s, nor is this adoration limited to merely one sub-genre. And…
