River of Grass 1994
A neo neo-realist American film about solitude, a "lover's on the run" tale with an unreliable narrator and a killer ending. It *feels* very much like a first movie as I've seen people comment on their reviews, but also it *feels* like and *is* a subversion of the road trip film, with female gaze encrusted ennui and really well earned slow pace.
Kelly deep-dive incoming....

Aftersun 2022
This film is furtively transcendant.
It's an absolute must-watch.
I'd like to think this film exists in the same universe as Maggie Gyllenhaal's The Lost Daughter, and that Paul Mescal is playing the same character in both. This slow, meditative and devastating film universe created by femme auteurs is all I need in my life.

Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping 2016
Unapologetically a film that I love, and is in my top films of all time probably hahaha. I love how it carefully and hilariously breaks down the stupidity and fragility of pop stardom, but it also is just a fun film about friendship with great dumb songs, and yes I tear up when the Boyz reconcile every time.
Maybe the next generation won't know the Aquaspin bit is a direct reference to the U2/Apple fiasco or they won't pick out…

Pig 2021
This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.
This was a very special film, it was a mournful ode to love, and to loss. I love a movie about grief that gets it right. I am also always delighted when a directorial debut is as stunning as this one. I can't wrap my head around how huge of an achievement that is. Imagine all the beautiful little elements that fell into place to have this film be as good as it was? Starting with Nic Cage saying yes…

The Holdovers 2023
I could hear Paul G's Paul H eloquently insult those kids all day, bro
This was cozy, and sweet, I will probably watch it every winter wrapped in a blanket and having a drink (Jim Beam on the rocks?)
Dominic Sessa knocks it out of the park in his film debut 👏
