Babygirl 2024
Starts off strong. Nicole Kidman and Harris Dickinson have legit chemistry, and the power dynamics central to the film are fragile and interesting and there’s a compelling feeling of discovery. Last half devolves into a dull, preachy mess, with a bunch of implausible scenes that serve to heavy-handedly make their points rather than tell a story.

Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World 2003
I was 15 when Master and Commander came out, and thoroughly obsessed with Gladiator (ok fine I still am) so I’m not sure how I failed to follow Russell Crowe into this one. A grievous error, because even now it’s probably the best big-fuck-off-ships-with-cannons and a side of tropical adventuring movie I’ve seen, and 15 year old me surely would have lost his mind.
