Perfectly-executed pastiche. In 2025, it's insane to think that a major studio once paid millions and millions of dollars to make what's essentially the big budget '60s romcom equivalent of Far From Heaven.

The Brothers Bloom 2008
What an enjoyable rewatch this was. I had not seen it since it was projected on celluloid, and it plays like something Wes Anderson might have made in 2008 if he'd kept the warmth and shaggy humanity of Bottle Rocket and Rushmore running through his next few films. (Ironically enough, Adrian Brody received the script for this while he was filming Anderson's The Darjeeling Limited, another movie about brothers abroad.) Conclave 2024
Very good, lots of juice, but also not quite as sudsy and bitchy as I was led to believe? I had heard about people gasping and yelling at plot twists, but I felt like this ultimately achieves a kind of serenity by the end. Feels like this will be a very easy rewatch, and one I’ll be able to enjoy much more on its own terms.
