A movie that should be awful in theory is made hilarious by it playing the autistic super soldier stuff completely straight. Affleck and Bernthal are electric, and watching them slowly careen towards one another is nothing short of beautiful. The action in this is genuinely shocking, from the brutality of the hand-to-hand stuff to the disturbingly vivid ways goons crumple in gunfights, it's also all deeply enhanced by Affleck's great physique. I'd probably have an issue with the reliance on…

For how relentlessly twee Juno is, it feels like a cover for how heavy and confronting the film gets about such a sensitive subject matter. There are moments where all that 2000's silliness in the dialogue is suddenly stripped back for some real stomach-churning drama, carried out amazingly by Elliot Page who can bring out such raw emotion on a dime. Out of a flawless supporting cast, Allison Janney ties this all together in a way I couldn't have predicted.

More of a cultural vacuum than a film, and hopefully, also the last, wheezing hurrah to the MCU. Continues the trend of the Deadpool films being a way to internalise the critiques of Marvel and repackage them with a side of condescending smugness, which feels especially frustrating as this franchise sinks into total collapse. Seeing Hugh Jackman be the only one actually trying to pretend there’s anything to these characters than vehicles to deliver unfunny jokes is painful. Just let the…

Unfortunately a second time around due to family wanting to see it. Really couldn't ignore how troubling I think the bro-y homophobia of Reynolds' fruity take on the character is. They should've fucked! Kissed, at least. Car fight remains the only interesting one because it's the only with a set piece to work around. Also, besides like, one joke at the very end, I can't help but feel all the edgy bite has been sucked out of the humour in this, a real indictment of how Disney needs everything nice and sanded down, no matter what.
