Torque is its own contradiction. this movie is essentially "The Fast and the Furious but with bikes", except it is also openly hostile toward the Fast and Furious franchise. but for all its anti-F&F posturing it doesn't seem to have a problem with aping—and even magnifying—those films' objectification of women. in my personal ideology of the Fast and Furious movies, where cars and women are functionally equivalent, bikes imply a certain femininity on the part of the rider—it's mostly women…

maybe Elaine Stritch's ten takes of "The Ladies Who Lunch" at 5am weren't the cleanest, but they have character, you know? and isn't that what it's all about—telling a story? the exasperation of it all? and where does this Sondheim guy get off rolling his eyes like that. can't they see what a knockout performance this is? That's what you're thinking and then they cut to her Actually Good performance the next day and you're like. Oh i'm dumb as rocks

toes the line of in/sincerity remarkably well in high-heeled shoes. frankly i wouldn’t want this goofy toy ad movie to be much deeper or more radical than it is. it goes right where it needs to and no further. some very good jokes and perfect production design. busby berkeley ken dance sequence is a highlight.

more movies should have a color scheme for people to dress up in when they go to see it
