  I'm still wrapping my head around this film. This was the most un-Pixar-esque film I've seen, but that's also because they dealt with such a meta topic. The animation and artistry were so beautiful and captivating, I wish I could print each scene out onto a poster. But the theme wasn't revolutionary - basically, as you're chasing your dreams, don't forget to appreciate the little moments. Maybe it's a lesson some folks want to see in 2020, but I feel…

  As an Asian American who grew up loving the 1998 Mulan, I came into this film not necessarily with high expectations, but looking forward to how Disney was going to do a different take on Mulan (after historically having done live action remakes that stick the the original plot). The characters had no emotional resonance, and each key decision had no emotional weight behind them. I would 100% choose the 1998 film over this any day.
