I give ratings within genre and take into account my enjoyment as well as the quality of the movie. Don’t @ me.

A movie about the purpose of religion and god complexes. I’m very interested in religion and have had many conversations similar to some in the movie. This sense of myself that I found in the movie made me enjoy it, though the antagonist does veer into the insane (for which I am not). Hugh Grant does an amazing job as Mr. Reed, captivating you at every moment on screen. Sophie Thatcher and Chloe East do a good job supporting Grant’s monologues but have no real stand out moments themselves. Overall I enjoyed the story and felt engaged by the tension present throughout.

There is something about creating a narrative centered around large scale tragedy that works. Similar to movies about WWII or American slavery, well known tragedy, especially if it involved your own culture, strikes a chord and connects through film. Michael Keaton is great, as always, and the story is something I never thought of, lending to its charm and intrigue. I thoroughly enjoyed it.

A twisting 1930’s thriller that leaves you wanting to clean your house and lock your doors. The setting of the dustbowl is unique and adds a hazy charm to this well written saga of a mother’s fight to maintain control. It has a few jump scares, the plot keeps you guessing, and the climax is creepy enough to warrant a horror title. If you’re a horror-light type of person, this one should be on your list! If you’re horror-heavy, it might not spike your adrenaline but it’ll keep you entertained!

I’m usually a fan of every Stephen King adaptation, but this poorly written mess of a film is the exception. The plot is simple, the writing has holes a mile wide, and the pacing is plain bad. The acting of the protagonist is alright, but his costars are lack luster and do nothing to spur emotion of any kind. I was hoping for a new vampire classic, but trust me when I say you should rewatch Fright Night, 30 Days of Night, Interview with a Vampire, Blade 1/2, Lost Boys, Dracula (any of them) or any other previous vampire movie, before this one.
