  I felt compelled to rewatch this because I heard some of the theme music recently and wondered why such an upbeat tune made me feel so melancholic. Turns out I had forgotten how big a part general sadness/depression plays in this movie. Kiki's a character with a wide emotional range, often sunnily optimistic, but occasionally irrationally sad, and she struggles with exposing herself to vulnerability in relationships, especially with friendly town kid Tombo.   Bridge of Spies is a bit of a grab bag film. Sometimes fueled by the righteous indignation of a courtroom drama, sometimes by Hanks' physical comedy instincts as he awkwardly negotiates with street hoodlums in East Berlin, and yes, sometimes by the knuckle clenched tension of a prisoner exchange.
