    Best of 1980s
#250 on the year in 4k blu-ray at my brother’s.

Still just a four star, but top ten horror movie for me. Kubrick’s direction is excellent as always; the cinematography and sound design absorb us into a frigidly eerie environment, a world that feels cold to the touch and cuts straight to the bone. Add Nicholson and Duvall’s legendary performances to the mix and Kubrick secures another classic notch in his belt.

One of the Best Films I’ve Ever Seen
    Best of 1970s
    Robert Altman

Painstakingly cold and spellbindingly opaque, 3 Women feels like Persona in Altman’s image. The film is an astoundingly evocative audiovisual experience, unlike any other. Altman crafts a land and soundscape that expands into a grittier, eerier sensory world than in any of his other films.

Midwestern through and through, Lynch’s Disney movie about brotherhood, aging, nature, and more affected this Missouri boy deeply and profoundly. With a subtle humor, a gentle quietude, and a slow power, The Straight Story wisps you into Alvin’s unusual journey with a quirky beat and lovable light. Simply a delight of a film, only elevated by the full crowd viewing in 35 mm.

Fun, inspiring movie, albeit dripping with sentimentality. Stiller is a gift to television and film, and I haven't even seen Severance yet.
