Intensely moved by so much in this, not least the elegantly staged in-camera shifts between past and present. They’re a perfect distillation of what the movie’s all about: time isn’t a river, it’s an ocean, and it’s all we can do to tread in a way that feels vaguely like progress.

A sui generis expression of the consequences of emotional repression that reveals itself through successive patient, almost clinical examinations of modern urban space. Such a great touch that our protagonist basically figures out what’s going on like 30 minutes in, but it doesn’t matter. The horror is unknowable and ungraspable.

Trying not to oversell it, but I haven't felt this effusive about a new release in ~2 years. The descriptors being thrown around for it (gentle, patient, quiet, etc.), while all nominally true, don't quite get to heart of what I found so moving about this, which is: it's a film completely uninterested in plot-dictated coherence and order, and yet its characterizations are never less than clear as a bell.
