I’ve always thought of film as the medium with the most colors to paint with. Martin Scorsese, a man who has spent his 80 years on Earth continually adding to and championing the power of cinema, has proven time and again how immense that palette is. It’s in KOTFM that Marty uses that palette to deliver the most powerful, brilliant, and multi-layered ending in his whole career (one filled with massive finales).

The Good
I genuinely didn’t think Nolan would ever have this much conviction (especially when it’s disdain for his title character). It’s refreshing to see something so abjectly opinionated, especially from someone who has stuck to only dipping his toes enough in hot water to get credit. It’s both structurally and thematically concise—escalating theoretical loops leading to a horrific eventuality that smaller men told themselves theory would also prevent.

Couldn’t help but see this as Marty’s last film, and although that’s likely not true, the thought saddened me deeper than anything in the picture itself. Thank you Marty, for everything.
