    A Multi-Pass to Greatness
(Bias warning, this is my favorite film!)

Luc Besson’s “The Fifth Element” isn’t just a film, it’s a neon-drenched, hyper-stylized rollercoaster of sci-fi insanity that refuses to play by the rules. Equal parts space opera, action spectacle, and outright satire, it’s a film that struts onto the screen in Gaultier couture, winks at convention, and then blasts off into the cosmos, unapologetically weird and wildly ambitious. Beneath its flamboyant surface, however, lies a film with surprising…

    Sci-Fi with soul.

Bong Joon Ho does it again, delivering a film that’s as thought-provoking as it is visually stunning. “Mickey 17” has all the trademarks of his best work: sharp storytelling, wild imagination, and themes that hit deep. It’s high-concept sci-fi wrapped in biting social commentary, blending humor, tension, and emotional weight in that effortlessly cool way only Bong can pull off.

At its core, the film follows a man sent on a dangerous mission to a brutal, unwelcoming…

    The Art of the Kill

“Ballerina” is a revenge film dressed in couture violence.
Sleek, blood-soaked, and emotionally ice-cold in all the right ways. It’s not trying to say much, and frankly, that’s the charm. Jeon Jong-seo doesn’t act so much as emanate; every frame she’s in is doing heavy lifting most action leads only dream of.

It’s indulgent, yes. But unapologetically so. A neon-drenched meditation on loss, rage, and the therapeutic properties of stabbing people in slow motion. At…

    ★★

    Lost in Transmission

For a movie about artificial intelligence and human connection, “The Electric State” struggles to connect with its own audience. It’s like watching someone tell a fascinating story in a whisper… Intriguing at first, frustratingly annoying by the end. If you’re in it for the visuals and the atmosphere, you might find something to enjoy. If you’re hoping for a story that lingers in your mind rather than just your eyeballs, you might be left searching for a signal.

    A complete unknown…

“A Complete Unknown” is a film that truly lives up to its title, leaving you feeling more mystified about Bob Dylan than before you bought your ticket. James Mangold masterfully directs a biopic that manages to provide all the highlights of Dylan’s life without any of the substance, like a greatest hits album that forgot to include the music.

The movie chooses to skip any meaningful exploration of Dylan’s background or inner world, instead opting for a…

Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory

    ★★★

    Whimsical and Imaginative.

Experiencing this movie for the first time in 2023 left me with mixed feelings. The imaginative world of the chocolate factory and Gene Wilder's eccentric performance as Willy Wonka were definite highlights considering this came out in 1971. However, the pacing felt uneven at times, and some of the characters' actions seemed overly exaggerated. The moral lessons and quirky humor were present, but they didn't always resonate as strongly as I had expected. While it's undoubtedly a unique and iconic film, I found myself wishing for a bit more.
