Back to the Future 1985
I never tire of this film. Funny, engaging, and imaginative. Wonderful cast. Pure enjoyment from beginning to end. One of those magical instances where all the pieces fell into the right place at the right time.

Blow Out 1981
One of my favourites. Peak De Palma. Great cast (Travolta at his best), wonderful score (regular collaborator Pino Donaggio), glorious photography (the superb Vilmos Zsigmond), and a conspiracy-laden script that riffs on BLOW-UP (1966) and THE CONVERSATION (1974). Many stand-out moments. That ending... haunting.

The Untamed 2016
I couldn't help but think of Andrzej Zulawski's POSSESSION (1981) when watching this, and that's not a bad thing. (There's even an acknowledgement to him in the end credits.) If you'd been hoping to see another domestic drama featuring a weird tentacled creature engaging in interspecies sex, then look no further.

Mad Max: Fury Road 2015
Welcome back, George Miller. An extraordinary achievement. A cinematic world so perfectly realised. Mind-blowing on so many levels.
