    There’s something familiar about the blend of the wildly funny and dark familial sadness in this Jewish family comedy that explores Jewish history and trauma. It’s giving David Sedaris, and it’s instantly recognisable as a type of American export. That isn’t to say it isn’t incredibly poignant and intelligent at times.     This is a real Rorschach blot of a film. What one reads into it says as much as oneself as it does about the film. Unlike so many recent blockbusters (think The Substance), it doesn’t offer easy thematic resolution. What is the film about? Lives do not resolve themselves easily into themes.
