Late Spring 1949
The plot of this movie is quite similar to that of Autumn Afternoon. The difference is that the unwed daughter, Setsuko Hara here, is much more unrestrained in her actions. She has no qualms calling Mr Onodera filthy for remarrying or showing her displeasure to her father or aunt about their efforts to get her married. Her facial expressions tell a thousand words. It's a very bittersweet film, especially with the ending.

Off to a great start. Every moment in this domestic horror tale drips with tension and suspense. The music is especially disconcerting and Silayan gives one of the best male performances I have seen as a domineering, patriarchal tyrant.
The film is equally scathing as a portrayal and criticism of the Marcos dictatorship. Everyone who stands by and watches is equally victim and perpetrator of the overbearing oppression that befalls them. And when the dictator falls, he takes everyone with him.
