  The entire film felt like a series of set-ups to justify a handful of bizarrely egregious moments (handed to us in a pseudo-poetic way); as if the director and writer were thinking ‘what do we have to do to in order to get away with this image or this line.’ It’s disappointing seeing Guadagnino prioritize shock value after seeing such careful restraint from him in Call Me by Your Name.

  I film that pretends to be ignorant of its pretension until it starts hitting you over the head with how hilariously self-aware aware it is.

  But the meat of the film is in the poeticized insanity of Fiennes who manages to play it with real heart, despite all the added filigree.

  Overall— delightfully absurd and darkly tongue-in-cheek 👌
